What to do if you find an injured/dead loon

May 31, 2016 By Bear Lake Association of Kalkaska County

1 – Contact our Loon Ranger, Mary Vervisch through this website or email – bearlakekalkaska@gmail.com.

2 – If you cannot get in touch with Mary, contact the Michigan Loonwatch State Coordinator, Joanne Williams – 989-828-6019 or 989-289-0291 (c)

3 –Contact the DNR District Field Office – Gregory Kinser, (989)348-5293, kinserg@michigan.gov.  Contacting the DNR or just leaving a message is authorization enough to hold the bird for transport.  You can also ask for assistance to transport it.

State and Federal permits are required to hold a dead or injured loon for any length of time beyond transporting it to assistance.
