The lodge was on the vacant lot about 200′ east of W. Bear Lake Rd on Hillcrest. My first home circa 1977, 664 W. Bear which is the corner of Hillcrest and W. Bear. I purchased that from Francis Gohrsch for a whopping $28,000. Thought those $239. monthly payments would kill me. The Gohrsch’s from Chicago used to take the train to Kalkaska and it would take them all day to get to Bear Lake from town. The hill commonly known as Tower Hill was always washed out in the spring and they had to get a team of horses to pull their Model A up the hill.
